Saildrive Rebuild & Hull-Interface Repair MAJOR
Skookum Yacht Services (Granville Island) — Inv 11581 · Stem to Stern Marine — RO 13433 ($9,636)
- Haul-out, dive survey and systematic leak-tracing isolated minor water ingress to the saildrive bed — then fixed it properly, not patched
- Saildrive removed from the vessel and fully rebuilt in-shop: new diaphragms, band clamps, oil seals, o-rings, backup rings, new anode and propeller nut assembly; seal & pressure tested
- Saildrive aperture re-glassed by Skookum: three ingress paths eliminated, voids filled, and a new machined-flat fiberglass mating surface fabricated for the o-ring seal
- Transmission and drive leg re-bedded; exhaust elbow re-gasketed; new muffler-to-elbow hose; new secondary fuel hose
- Bilge-pump fault traced to a wrong-type check valve — root cause found and corrected

Cooling, Starting & Charging Refit MAJOR
Stem to Stern Marine — RO 13462 ($13,758)
- New Yanmar heat-exchanger assembly (complete unit), full coolant replacement, cooling system pressure-tested
- New starter motor
- Balmar 170 A high-output alternator with serpentine-belt pulley conversion kit, external smart regulator (temperature-compensated charging), alternator protection module and temp sensor
- All-new heavy-gauge charging loom — alternator wiring re-run in 1/0 AWG marine cable with charge-sense runs direct to the batteries
- Digital Echo charger installed between house and start banks; start battery properly isolated from the house system
- New saildrive sensor amplifier; shower drain pump circuit restored
Declared to insurer Oct 2024: “Upgraded alternator and engine battery isolation switch through contractor Stem to Stern.”

- New Yanmar B20 control-panel assembly with new adapter harness — modern panel replacing the original (whose hour meter had failed before purchase)
- Full service: engine oil & filter, primary and secondary fuel filters, raw-water impeller, new serpentine belt, sea strainer cleaned, fuel system bled and treated
- All fluids, hoses, clamps, mounts, cables and bilge pumps checked; engine test-run — charge voltage verified at 14.8 V
Engine hours read ~730 at the 2023 survey; hours since Jan 2025 are logged on the new panel.
